Getting started with FaxToFax in Canada
FaxToFax lets you send and receive faxes from a web browser, with a Canadian fax number and no machine, phone line or software to install. It works on a computer, tablet or phone, so you can fax from the office, from home or on the road. This faxtofax.ca guide takes you from sign-up to your first sent and received fax, with tips for getting the basics right from day one.
Get Started NowBefore you begin
- A device with a modern browser such as Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox.
- An email address you check often. You sign in with it, and one-time codes are sent there.
- An idea of the number you want: a local number in your area code or a toll-free number.
- A payment card. Card payments are processed through Stripe.
Set up your account in four steps
Then turn on two-step verification in your account settings for an extra layer of protection. If you had an old fax number, note that porting is not available yet, so let your contacts know about your new number.
- Enter your email address on the sign-up page.
- Type in the one-time code sent to that address. FaxToFax is passwordless, so there is nothing to create or remember.
- Pick your fax number. Choose a local number, for example in a 416, 604 or 902 area code where available, or a toll-free number. You can also choose numbers in the US, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- Activate your account and choose your plan.
Send your first fax
- Click to start a new fax.
- Attach a PDF, PNG or JPG, or write the document in the editor on your letterhead.
- Add a cover page. You can upload your logo and save the cover page as a reusable template.
- Enter the recipient's 10-digit fax number. You can add up to 50 recipients to one fax.
- Confirm each number when asked. This check is there to prevent misdirected faxes.
- Send now, or schedule it up to 90 days ahead. Scheduled faxes can be cancelled before they go.
- Watch the status: In progress, then Delivered or Failed. Delivered faxes get a time-stamped delivery receipt; failed faxes use no pages.
Receive faxes in your inbox
Faxes sent to your number arrive in a private, encrypted inbox in your browser. You will see in-app and browser alerts when one arrives. FaxToFax never emails documents, so to read a fax you sign in from any device. Each view and download is recorded in an append-only audit log.
For privacy, your session ends after 30 minutes of inactivity by default. Account owners can change this to 15 or 60 minutes.
Good habits for your first month
Questions about plans or features are answered across faxtofax.ca, and your account itself lives at FaxToFax.com, so you can sign in from either.
- Update your letterhead, website and email signature with your new fax number.
- Create one or two cover page templates for the faxes you send most.
- Check your page usage. Sent and received pages both count toward your monthly allowance.
- If you work with others, look at the Business plan, which adds users, roles and a shared inbox.
- Set retention controls so old faxes are purged automatically when your policy allows.
